Book Club Meeting

  • 25 Jan 2023
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Club House

Hi all,

For anyone interested in getting involved in our book club, we meet monthly (typically the 4th Wed. of each month). For January, we're meeting at the BHR Clubhouse on Wed., Jan. 25th at 7:00 PM. If you're interested in attending, please respond via our Wednesday Open Book Club evite: http://evite.me/C5agw9Fxx3  (this link is for January only).

We have about a 30 minute social time, then we gather to discuss the book- and anything else that spins off from that discussion. You're not required to read the books, and we encourage you to come regardless. (I've heard some book clubs don't actually read books but we do). The book we're reading for January is "The Only Woman in the Room by Marie Benedict. This book has 4.5/5 stars with about 13,000 reviews on Amazon and was one we chose to read from the books we exchanged at our holiday party.

Given our snacks seem to rarely get eaten or only a nibble, you are always welcome to bring a small snack or drink to share, but please do not feel obligated to do so

Also, we are a very friendly and COVID- SAFE book club. We request that you either be vaccinated or wear a mask to attend, esp. given all the respiratory illnesses going around right now

BOOK SYNOPSIS:

She possessed a stunning beauty. She also possessed a stunning mind. Could the world handle both?

Her beauty almost certainly saved her from the rising Nazi party and led to marriage with an Austrian arms dealer. Underestimated in everything else, she overheard the Third Reich's plans while at her husband's side, understanding more than anyone would guess. She devised a plan to flee in disguise from their castle, and the whirlwind escape landed her in Hollywood. She became Hedy Lamarr, screen star.

But she kept a secret more shocking than her heritage or her marriage: She was a scientist. And she knew a few secrets about the enemy. She had an idea that might help the country fight the Nazis...if anyone would listen to her.

A powerful novel based on the incredible true story of the glamour icon and scientist whose groundbreaking invention revolutionized modern communication, The Only Woman in the Room is a masterpiece.

Looking forward to seeing everyone and happy reading!
